WEST VALLEY PREPS

Valley Vista wrestler aims for more honors on Reyes name

They are not related, but Valley Vista wrestling coach Jacob Reyes and senior ace Eddie Reyes want to see their shared last name double in the school record books.

Ten years ago, Jacob Reyes won the Surprise school’s only wrestling state title in the 106-pound class. Now he is hoping to coach Eddie to a state title at 150 pounds, a year after a paperwork error denied Eddie a chance to compete in the state meet.

“A state title would mean a lot, knowing that Jacob is our only state champion from Valley in school history,” Eddie Reyes said. “It would mean I’ve accomplished a small goal in my life and am one step closer to that long-term goal that I have.”
