Valley Vista volleyball teams up for best start

United Monsoon use depth, unpredictability to rocket up 6A charts

Since 2015, Valley Vista volleyball has been the home of big hitters like Bre Allen, Kyla Chavez and Aliyah Moore.

Moore graduated in the spring, after a 2020 season where she had 237 kills in only 16 matches — more than double her nearest teammate. The question was, who is next.

“We heard it every day, ‘You guys don’t have her. What are you going to do? She was your only player.’ So I think we were all realizing one person doesn’t make a team. We definitely relied on her a lot last year because she’s an amazing player. This year we’re pretty consistent at every position. We are using more positions and moving the ball around a lot more. It’s a lot less predictable. Honestly, I think we’re going to get a lot farther this year,” senior setter Kailin Katena said.
