Valley Ukraine community coping, gathering during ‘horrible’ war

Peaceful march in support scheduled Sunday in Phoenix

The nightmare for the Valley’s Ukranian community is, at times, overwhelming.

As Russia invades the sovereign nation with horror still yet to play out, those here in Arizona with family and friends back home are hearing the worst of the worst.

Victor Szwez, who lives in north Glendale, has second cousins in Ukraine, where his parents were born. His family lives in eastern Ukraine near Donetsk or, as he can only put it, “right in the middle of the Russian occupation right now.”
