Valley schools opting out of providing voting space

Valley schools, long a place that had hosted primary and general elections in the region, are rethinking those plans and saying no to being voting centers.

Maintaining campus safety outweighed allowing Maricopa County to use a school space as a polling site for its November election, said Scott Thompson, assistant superintendent at Mesa Public Schools.

Last November, the district hosted its own polling site at Mountain View High School for the district’s override and bond election.
