30-day notice may temporarily stave off evictions

Protection only applies to multifamily properties with federally backed mortgages

The federal eviction moratorium first imposed at the onset of the pandemic expired over the weekend, leaving thousands of Arizonans vulnerable to eviction, housing advocates warn.

But a last-minute order from the Federal Housing Finance Agency requiring a 30-day notice to evict certain tenants for nonpayment of rent may temporarily stave off the forecasted sweep of evictions for some Valley residents.

At the White Tank Justice Court, which serves areas including Goodyear and Litchfield Park, all eviction cases scheduled for Monday were moved to Wednesday, as a result of the FHFA order.
