Can the neighborhood you call home influence how your brain ages? Researchers at Banner Sun Health Research Institute believe there may be a correlation between community and cognitive aging.
Five years ago, a University of Wisconsin professor reached out to Dr. Geidy Serrano, director of the Brain and Body Donation Program at the Banner Sun Health Research Institute, wanting to conduct this study.
Research found a link between where people have lived to a rating they call “area deprivation index.” This tries to measure neighborhood conditions such as poverty level, education, employment rate, income, quality housing and other variables to see if there is a connection between worse conditions and higher cognitive deficiency rates.
