Valley programs aim to help improve veterans’ lives

Man’s best friend can help ease the pain. Recently they’ve been doing that for veterans.

For veterans, dogs can offer emotional support and temper symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder or another brain injury — just by spending time with a canine, said Mik Milem, executive director at Soldier’s Best Friend in Peoria.

“Dogs are really intuitive,” Milem said. “They know it when we are having a rough time.”
