Valley municipalities reacting to EPA mandate banning lead pipes

Some Valley municipalities are in the midst of tackling an effort to replace lead water service lines after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced a mandate for the change earlier this week.

On Tuesday, the Biden-Harris Administration “issued a final rule requiring drinking water systems nationwide to identify and replace lead pipes within” 10 years, according to an EPA press release.

The EPA announced Arizona would get about $43.55 million in “newly available drinking water infrastructure funding” through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the press release stated.
