Valley Metro is preparing for thousands of runners in Tempe this weekend for Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona races, adjusting where service will be offered.

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday also will change Valley Metro’s schedule.

Here is what to expect:

Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona

Saturday, Jan. 13

  • Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona 5K begins at 8 a.m. at Tempe Beach Park.
  • Runners and spectators should use Tempe Beach Park/Rio Salado light rail station.

Sunday, Jan. 14

  • Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona half marathon and 10K races start at 7:15 a.m.
  • Runners participating in the half marathon and 10K should exit at Mill Avenue/3rd Street light rail station for the start of the race.
  • The end point for the races is at Tempe Beach Park, so expect light rail to have more riders around the downtown Tempe stations.

Streetcar service will be operating only between 9th Street/Mill Avenue and Dorsey/Apache Boulevard on Saturday, Jan. 13, from start of service until Monday, Jan. 15, at 4 a.m. Also, several bus routes will have detours, including:

  • Routes 48 and 62 on Saturday, Jan. 13.
  • Routes 48, 56, 62, Earth, Jupiter, Mercury and Venus on Sunday, Jan. 14.
