Valley medical graduates fill physician shortage

When Dr. Katherine Mitzel embarked on her medical school journey, staying in her hometown was of the highest priority.

Now, years later, Dr. Mitzel serves her alma mater Midwestern University as Associate Dean for Curricular Integration and Faculty Development at the College of Osteopathic Medicine. The school recently saw about 250 graduates cross the stage and earn degrees just last week.

“I myself being born and raised in Phoenix was really excited about the opportunity to come to be able to stay,” she said. “I actually lived with my parents. It was nice not to necessarily have to move to Tucson.”
