Valley leaders speak out against GOP lawsuit against transit proposition

Valley leaders across the political spectrum are decrying a lawsuit by the Maricopa County Republican Committee seeking to overturn the vote approving Proposition 479, which would fund billions of dollars of transportation improvements around the county.

The lawsuit aimed to block the voter-approved measure will hinder lifestyle and economic expansion in Maricopa County, according Jack Sellers, outgoing chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.

Proposition 479 would extend a half-cent sales tax in Maricopa County dedicated to funding transportation around the region. The tax has been approved by voters twice before, first in 1985 and again in 2004.
