Valley cities giving away free at-home COVID-19 tests

Program aims to stop spread ahead of holidays

With COVID-19 cases rising and holiday gatherings quickly approaching, Valley cities are jumping into action to help stop the spread of the disease.

Cities across the Phoenix area are giving away free athome rapid COVID-19 tests so residents can know for sure whether or not they are sick. The tests are available to pick up at all 18 branches of the Maricopa County Library District, which are scattered across the Valley, as well as the Avondale Public Library and all three branches of the Mesa Public Library. Starting Tuesday, the city of Tempe is joining the cause.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic, the city of Tempe has been committed to providing access to COVID-19 vaccines and testing information,” said Melissa Quillard, a city spokeswoman. “This program is an extension of that commitment, which is particularly important now since so many people will be gathering with family and friends over the holidays.”
