Valley artist finds inspiration in both desert and sea

Michael Mckee to be featured at the Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival

Fountain Hills Artist Michael McKee is known for his colorful landscape paintings and abstract pastels. His work has been showcased at art fairs across the country and will appear at the upcoming Thunderbird Artists' Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival, Nov. 7–9, in Carefree.

McKee’s art reflects both the beauty of the landscapes around him and the influence of his late father, a jazz musician whose creativity shaped his own artistic instincts.

McKee has been a regular exhibitor at the Thunderbird Artists' Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival for several years. For seven months of the year, he lives in Fountain Hills, soaking up the desert sun and painting its vibrant colors, deep shadows and glowing highlights. The rest of the year, he and his wife travel northwest to Yachats, Ore., a small ocean-side town of about 900 residents. There, the coastal climate offers him an entirely different palette.
