Arizona utilities to be restricted on summer disconnections

ACC discusses plans to keep customer power going amid heat

Valley utility companies could soon be restricted from shutting off power to residents behind on their bills during extreme heat during the summer months.

On April 14, members of the Arizona Corporation Commission voted to change utilities’ power disconnection policies and formally draft more permanent rules that govern utility companies across the state.

Chairwoman Lea Márquez Peterson said she put the matter on the commission agenda about two and a half years after the death of Stephanie Pullman of Sun City West.
