Urban farm will soon take root in west Phoenix

Will include farmers market, gardening and cooking classes

The city of Phoenix is working to bring an urban farm to the northwest corner of 32nd Avenue and McDowell Road.

Interim Parks and Recreation Director Martin Whitfield said it was a first-of-its-kind project for the Parks Department during a June 25 Parks and Recreation Board meeting. It is a collaboration between District 4 Councilmember Laura Pastor, the Parks Department, the Office of Environmental Programs and the nonprofit Unlimited Potential.

“We’re excited that it will be an opportunity to provide food to that area,” Whitfield said.
