Opera’s long history in Phoenix continues with upcoming season

Arizona Opera will stage comedy, classics, new works in 2026-27

Opera again will add its spirit to the Valley arts scene later this year.

Arizona Opera, founded in 1971 by a dedicated group of opera enthusiasts, announced its lineup of performances for the 2026-27 season, which opens in September. “Scalia/Ginsburg,” an operatic comedy inspired by the real-life friendship between Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, will grace the Herberger Theater Center stage in downtown Phoenix.

The season also will feature “El Gato Con Botas (Puss In Boots)” in November, “The Pirates of Penzance” in January, and “La Traviata” in March.
