A call for artists has gone statewide to help shape a signature public art initiative as part of the state’s commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary.

The Arizona America250 Commission, in collaboration with the Flinn Foundation and Art State Arizona, is looking for artists to celebrate Arizona’s iconic Five Cs — copper, cattle, cotton, citrus, and climate.

Artist submissions are open, with a final deadline of Monday, Jan. 5.

This public art effort invites creatives from across Arizona — professional artists, emerging talent, students, and community-based designers — to submit concepts for sculptures, installations, and mixed-media work inspired by the forces that built Arizona’s economy, identity, and cultural heritage, a press release explains.

“As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, this project offers a meaningful opportunity for Arizonans to express the heritage and values that define our state,” said Tammy McLeod, Flinn Foundation president & CEO, stated. “The Five Cs shaped Arizona’s past, and the creativity of our artists will help shape how we tell that story to future generations. We are proud to partner in bringing this vision to life.”

The final installations will reflect the spirit of the Five Cs, the communities that built them, and the future generations who will define Arizona for the next 250 years.

Selected artists will be notified on Jan. 12 with installations unveiled at an opening reception on Feb. 3 at Flinn Foundation and showcased throughout 2026 as part of Arizona’s America250 programming — including the Traveling Museum Exhibition, Passport250, Operation Freedom March, and other statewide efforts.
