Arizona transgender, nonbinary individuals, see both more acceptance, less tolerance

Eva Galindo knew she felt different from a young age.

Now the program director for the Phoenix Pride, Galindo, a transgender woman, said she transitioned from being male to female in her early 20s but had known for years something was different about her.

“Although we were not a very religious family at all, I remember going to bed and the only time I would pray to God is when I would ask him to remove what I thought was the mistake he gave me,” Galindo said. “I know people who have suffered from it too. It can cause physical and mental harm that can sometimes be debilitating and crippling…people can feel like a prisoner in their own body.”
