Understanding dementia seminar coming up in Sun City West

"Understanding Dementia — A Challenging Journey" is the topic of a special Hospice of the Valley community presentation on Monday, Jan. 27, at Lord of the Life Church, 13724 W. Meeker Blvd., Sun City West.

The public is invited to the free event to learn more about dementia and obtain helpful resources.

Participants will:

  • Understand dementia and how it progresses from early to advanced stages.
  • Develop strategies for making — and maintaining — meaningful connections with the person with dementia.
  • Value the caregiver role and explore ways to reduce stress.

Leading the presentation is Maribeth Gallagher, who directs Hospice of the Valley's Dementia Program, recognized nationally and internationally for its innovative approaches to dementia care.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The program runs 9 a.m.-noon. A continental breakfast will be provided.
