Under Fountain Hills’ dark skies, a season of stargazing begins

Fountain Hills residents have a rare advantage in the Valley: a night sky dark enough to reveal its stories.

As an International Dark Sky Community, the town offers clear views of the stars without the heavy skyglow common in nearby cities. That distinction shapes what people can see and why stargazing within the community continues to draw interest from locals and visitors alike.

“Whether someone comes for an evening, a weekend or an extended stay, Fountain Hills offers excellent stargazing once the sun goes down,” said Vicky Derksen, founder of Night Sky Tourist and a board member of the International Dark Sky Discovery Center. “For many people, it is the first time the sky feels alive instead of washed out.”
