Recycling program seeing upswing

When it comes to recycling, it has been a tough road for municipalities since China imposed strict recycling restrictions back in 2018.

But that appears to be changing for the city of Peoria.

Only months after the restrictions from China were implemented, Peoria City Council approved an agreement to invest $1 million to refurbish the Phoenix Materials Recovery Facility that allowed Peoria to produce less contaminated materials, thus finding more markets to sell its recyclables, and sell them for a higher price. An additional $200,000 investment followed that in January 2021.
