Regarding the recall campaign in Sun City West, this does not feel like a “good faith” effort to improve our community.
I get the impression the motivation behind the recall is one of revenge for grievances felt by the leaders and not a real effort to build a better future.
I could mention that many of their complaints relate to the time of COVID. So why bring it up now unless they are trying to find excuses for their actions?
Here are just two areas where the “information” provided misrepresents the real situation. I’ll let the reader decide why the recall campaign didn’t provide this contextual background.
First, our dues are a rip off they claim. Sun City is cited as a community with lower fees. However, Pebble Creek and Sun City Festival are around twice our rate. Sun City Anthem is 60% higher. The Grand is 75% higher. The Villages is way more than twice our rate. In a “Top 10 Places to Retire” list, we have the lowest fees. Sun City West looks like very good value.
Second, the number of Chartered Clubs has reduced. However, mergers of at least seven clubs mean they only count as two. Just giving the headline number distorts the truth.
If this recall were successful and this group took over the board and fired the general manager, then Sun City West will be ripped apart and thrown into chaos. How would they find a new GM willing to report to a board that created chaos? How many of our experienced staff would decide to leave too? What kind of long-term decline will this action trigger?
