TSMC to get up to $6.6B to produce chips, build third AZ fab

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. will get up to $6.6 billion to help produce microchips in Arizona and to build a third fab in north Phoenix, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced on Sunday. 

The funding — part of the CHIPS and Science Act initiative — is the latest in a cluster of announcements for the U.S. semiconductor industry. 

TSMC announcement is the fifth in regards to CHIPS Act funding,  Raimondo said in a conference call.
