TSMC, Nvidia celebrate first Blackwell wafer produced at north Phoenix facility

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and Nvidia announced Friday that volume production has begun on Nvidia’s Blackwell wafer that will process graphics processing unit chips in north Phoenix.

“Nvidia was TSMC’s largest partner 30 years ago, and now Nvidia is TSMC’s largest customer again 30 years later,” Nvidia Founder and CEO Jensen Huang told a large gathering on Friday. “For the first time, the single most important chip will be manufactured in the United States by the most advanced fab, by TSMC, here in the United States.”

“To go from arriving in Arizona to delivering the first U.S.-made Nvidia Blackwell chip in just a few short years represents the very best of TSMC,” said TSMC Arizona CEO Ray Chuang. “This milestone is built on three decades of partnership with Nvidia — pushing the boundaries of technology together — and on the unwavering dedication of our employees and the local partners who helped to make TSMC Arizona possible.”
