It is not often a newly elected or appointed Peoria Unified governing board member goes straight to the seat of president in their first public meeting on the board.

But such has been the case with newest board member Rebecca Proudfit.

The board approved her nomination Jan. 11 under unusual circumstances, and she quickly experienced the divisive nature that has been common at PUSD board meetings since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
