Tremble Clefs slate fundraising concert in Sun City

Posted

The West Side Tremble Clefs will present its annual fundraising concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19 at the United Church of Sun City, 11250 N. 107th Ave.

The concert is open to the public.

The Tremble Clefs are music therapy groups for people with Parkinson’s disease, their family members and care givers with no musical experience expected or required.

Decreased voice volume and a monotone quality are common symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. This clinically beneficial program provides vocal and movement exercises and generates learning and comfortable challenges in a shared supportive environment.

The purpose of the Tremble Clefs is to intervene the voice loss by improving voice volume and speech through singing and focused exercise.

The Tremble Clefs grew from a Parkinson’s support group in Scottsdale in 1984.

In 2008, the Muhammad Ali Parkinson’s Center contracted Sun Joo Lee to establish a music therapy group for people with Parkinson’s in Sun City.

Sun Joo Lee and volunteers in the West Valley founded the West Side Tremble Clefs later in 2008. In 2019, services were expanded to Sun City West and Sun Lakes.

The program is currently implemented through four geographically separated groups in the Phoenix metropolitan area: Original Tremble Clefs in Scottsdale, West Side Tremble Clefs in Sun City, Mesa Tremble Clefs in Mesa and Southeast Tremble Clefs in Sun Lakes.

Visit TrembleClefsArizona.org for additional information about the group and future concerts. The site also includes practice locations, dates and times for those who may be interested in participation.
