A Desert Harbor Elementary School teacher is suing the Peoria Unified School District, governing board member Heather Rooks and former governing board member Rebecca Hill for discrimination and other charges.
River Chunnui, who is transgender, identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, alleges she endured “discriminatory, retaliatory, and tortuous” actions from Rooks, Hill and the district based on their gender and gender identity.
Chunnui filed a notice of claim to the district July 13, 2023.
