Posted

A train derailed Tuesday afternoon in El Mirage, restricting traffic along westbound Grand Avenue, authorities said.

According to BNSF official Lena Kent, all  of the six derailed cars remained upright and nothing had been compromised.

El Mirage Police officers responded about 2:30 p.m. to the derailment at the BNSF Railway yard, police said.

The rail cars did not pose a threat to the public, officials said.

BNSF operates an intermodal hub at the site used for rail transportation of new cars destined for local dealerships near where the cars derailed.

BNSF personnel were on site working to re-rail the cars. There are no injuries, and the cause of the incident is under investigation.

Thompson Ranch Road remained closed Tuesday night as Grand Avenue reopened with some lane restrictions, El Mirage police said.
