Trailer loaded with 100+ cows crashes on Glendale freeway

Southbound 101 lanes expected to reopen soon

Southbound lanes on Loop 101 near the Maryland Avenue off-ramp in Glendale are expected to open up again after an early morning incident on Friday.

At 3:56 a.m. Friday, a semi pulling a trailer loaded with 109 cows struck the median, according to Arizona Department of Public Safety Media Relations Specialist Bart Graves. One cow was deceased on scene, and two others had to be euthanized. With the assistance of ADOT, troopers were able to round up the loose cows from the freeway.

The accident occurred on southbound State Route 101 at the Maryland off ramp, milepost 6, near the Westgate Entertainment District. ADOT reports at 9:45 a.m. that the lanes should be reopened soon.
