A 19-year-old man has been charged with several offenses, including aggravated assault, after a weekend traffic stop in Buckeye, police said Tuesday.
At about 10 p.m. Jan. 11, Buckeye police pulled over the driver of a Dodge Charger who was suspected of driving 75 mph in a 40-mph zone as he was traveling south on Verrado Way near Western Drive, according to a release from the Buckeye Police Department.
An officer “advised the driver the reason for the traffic stop was for criminal speeding,” the release stated.
Seth Rabago, 19, provided his driver’s license, and the officer returned to a patrol vehicle, police said. A second officer was speaking with Rabago, who was still in the Charger, “when he suddenly sped off, nearly running over the officer,” according to the release.
While searching for the Charger, including checking the address listed on Rabago’s driver’s license, Buckeye police received a call from one of Rabago’s family members who said he wanted to turn himself in.
Officers arrested and booked Rabago into jail on charges of speeding, unlawful flight and aggravated assault, police said.
