Traffic collision on Peoria Avenue results in pedestrian fatality
Posted
A pedestrian crossing the street at Peoria Avenue died after he was hit by a car, June 12.
Peoria Police responded to an injury accident near 9800 W. Peoria Avenue at about 3 p.m..
The accident involved a red four-door sedan and an adult male pedestrian, police said.
Preliminary investigation shows the pedestrian was attempting to cross Peoria Avenue mid block. He was crossing from the north to the south when the red sedan traveling westbound hit him.
Police said the pedestrian had significant injuries and died from his injuries on scene. The man has been identified as 80-year-old Colin Thorpe of Peoria.
The driver of the red sedan was not injured and remained on scene throughout the investigation. The intersection was closed for several hours during the investigation but was open for normal traffic at 8:15 p.m. that night, police said.
This incident is still being investigated by the Peoria Police Department’s traffic services unit. However, there is no indication that the driver of the red sedan was impaired. This appears to be a tragic accident; no arrests have been made, and no citations have been issued, police said.
