The Gilbert Police Department and Gilbert Fire & Rescue have partnered with Trader Joe’s to a Sensory Awareness Family Event to the store April 19 at the Trader Joe's location at SanTan Pavilions.
The event will have a a calmer shopping environment and the security of knowing additional assistance will be available for those who struggle with sensory issues.
Toward that end, the store at 1779 E. Williams Field Road, Gilbert, will have no music and no in-store announcements during the S.A.F.E. times.
The focus will be on adult shoppers from 1-3 p.m. and family shoppers from 4-6 p.m.
Gilbert's police and fire departments are certified autism centers, meaning at least 80% of their staffs are highly trained, fully equipped and certified in the field of autism.
