There is nothing quite like the fresh start of a new school year. I had the pleasure of visiting a number of Kyrene campuses on the first day of school, and the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by both families and staff was inspiring.
In the coming months, there will be many opportunities to engage with your child’s school and the district.
Whether you are interested in volunteering in a classroom, joining a parent organization or attending events, family involvement plays a crucial role in a student’s education. Together, I am confident that we will continue to foster an environment where every student can thrive and reach their full potential.

A continued commitment to wellness
I am proud to share that Kyrene has been recognized by the Wellness Council of Arizona for our strides in prioritizing employee health and wellness.
Kyrene was nominated and approved to receive a renewal for the Gold Seal of Good Health Keeping and a new award, Balancing the Art & Science of Well-Being. These awards are a reflection of the work led by our benefits team, and their commitment to the health and wellness of all Kyrene employees.
In addition to our district-wide awards, two employees have been highlighted for their personal contributions to wellness in Kyrene: Sharyn Weinheimer, academic interventionist, received the Wellness Champion Award; and Dr. Marianne Lescher, principal of Kyrene Traditional Academy, received the Personal Achievement Award.
About Kyrene's upcoming election
Over the summer, the Kyrene Governing Board approved two resolutions for the district to place bond and override measures on the November ballot. Revenue from these initiatives supports the upkeep of each of our 26 schools, the district office complex and Kyrene's transportation fleet.
Visit our website at www.kyrene.org/election for more information on the measures and their impact on Kyrene schools.
The Kyrene Foundation's Night
Planning is underway for the Kyrene Foundation’s signature fundraising event, Night for Kyrene, to benefit Kyrene students, families, schools, and teachers. This year, the event will take place at the Wild Horse Pass Resort on Sept. 9 and will include plated dinner, dancing to live music and a community-curated silent auction.

Kyrene receives financial recognition
For the 27th year, Kyrene School District has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
Receiving this award year after year represents a significant accomplishment by Kyrene’s finance team, and I am grateful for their work and dedication to exemplary financial management.
I know that we have an exciting and busy year ahead of us, and I look forward to sharing the work, highlights and celebrations of our students and staff!
