Toad The Wet Sprocket will bring their Good Intentions U.S. headline tour to Mesa in September.
The alternative rock band from Santa Barbara, California, first arrived on the scene in the late 1980s and gained fame with albums like “Fear” (1991) and “Dulcinea” (1994), and hit singles “Walk on the Ocean,” “All I Want,” and “Good Intentions.”
The trio will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 inside the Tom and Janet Ikeda Theater at the Mesa Arts Center. Tickets start at $52.
The band is celebrating the 30th anniversary of their single “Good Intentions” with a new reimagined acoustic version out now. “Good Intentions” was originally written and recorded for Toad The Wet Sprocket’s album “Fear.”
“We were a rock band, and there was a feeling that this particular song was too lightweight for us,” bassist Dean Dinning recalled in a press release. Columbia Records, however, loved it and even suggested it as the album title. “That settled it. When the songs for the album were finally selected we made the decision to leave it off.”
Most recently, “Good Intentions” has become a fan favorite while on tour, as part of a few-song acoustic set as part of each live show.
“As a joke, we tried playing it with a bluegrass feel and prominent mandolin part. It came alive in a way that felt really exciting,” Dinning stated. “The audience response was incredible and has been that way pretty much every night we do it.”
KT Tunstall and Vertical Horizon will support the band at the Mesa stop.
As part of the tour, Toad The Wet Sprocket will be encouraging fans to “Imagine the World Outside” by spotlighting the work and outdoor adventures available to all through the National Parks Foundation.
