So much of our discourse these days suffers from hyperbole. Witness the recent letter, where we learn that the “homeless” are actually “unhousable,” and that in Sun City they are all alcoholics, addicts, felons, sex offenders and fugitive criminals. Really? No exceptions?
How about the occasional kids I see on the street? Disabled veterans? Mentally ill people?

Letter by Jim Tiffany of Sun City
So much of our discourse these days suffers from hyperbole. Witness the recent letter, where we learn that the “homeless” are actually “unhousable,” and that in Sun City they are all alcoholics, addicts, felons, sex offenders and fugitive criminals. Really? No exceptions?
How about the occasional kids I see on the street? Disabled veterans? Mentally ill people?
The poor and the sick down on their luck? And hey — even if they are addicts and felons, aren’t they God’s children, too?
So much of our discourse is about problems, so little about solutions. Homelessness is a huge problem all across our country.
It is very complicated, and it won’t be solved by blaming the victims.
Let’s try a little civil discourse; let’s try to remember, as my mother used to tell me: “But for the grace of God, kid, that poor guy out there on the street could be you.”
