The city of Peoria will host its annual Winter Water Safety Day and Polar Plunge this month.
Residents daring enough to swim across the pool in 40-degree water will receive a free shirt. The free event starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 at Sunrise Pool, 21321 N. 86th Drive.
Donations are welcome. A $28 donation pays for two weeks of swim lessons for a child unsure of their swimming skills.
Spring swim lessons begin March 25, and classes will be posted soon.
Open swim will resume the weekend of Memorial Day at all three city pools.
