Something was up at Lucky Boy Burger Shop on Wednesday, not even two hours after opening.
The longtime burger and hot dog restaurant — nostalgically located in the same building in the same spot at Osborn and 16th streets in Phoenix since 1951 — had its usual stream of hungry customers coming into the dining room and pulling up at the drive-thru window.
With a menu that hasn’t changed all that much since Phoenix had a population of around 100,000 and gas was 27 cents a gallon, Lucky Boy’s draw for foodies has largely been its burgers and hot dogs (but don’t sleep on the chicken sandwich) and overall casual American menu in an old-school atmosphere featuring counter seating.
