3/24 FRIDAY


MAKEUP: Attend the Estee Lauder Proartistry event 10 a.m.-6 p.m. March 24 at Arrowhead Towne Center, 7700 W. Arrowhead Towne. Pro makeup artist, Jake Johnson Basilio, will be teaching the latest transformative tips and techniques with makeup. Appointments necessary. Call 623-979-1128 ext. 5016.

FILM: Watch the movie “The Lorax” for free 6 p.m. March 24 at E. Lowell Rogers Amphitheater, 5850 W. Glendale Ave. After the movie there will be activities that go along with the film at Murphy Park, 58th and Glendale avenues. There will be free parking available throughout the downtown area and in the City Hall parking garage, 59th and Glendale avenues. Call 623-930-4500.

 BIKE NIGHT: See hundreds of bikes lined up during the Westgate Bike Night event 5–9 p.m. March 24 at Westgate Entertainment District, 6751 N. Sunset Blvd. There will also be live music, deals and discounts from Westgate bars and restaurants. Visit www.westgateaz.com.

CLASS: Learn how to use the Solver Stenciling technique 6:30-9:30 p.m. March 24 at Westgate Entertainment District, 6751 N. Sunset Blvd. Participants will be creating and art deco inspired monogram platter. This is for ages 12 and older. There is a $12 fee plus a pottery of choice. Visit asyouwishpottery.com.

CONCERT: Hear the band Pyrotechnica perform 6:30-9:30 p.m. March 24 at Westgate Entertainment District, 6751 N. Sunset Blvd. They have opened for the national band Entheos and were selected to appear on Zia Record’s compilation album “You Heard Us Back When Vol.10,” featuring top local bands from Tucson, Phoenix and Las Vegas. Additionally, they are a part of KFMA Rock 102.1 on the Local Noise Test Department segment performing live. The band was founded by Ben Iniguez and Scarlett Yoeria. Visit www.westgateaz.com.

MUSICAL: Catch the musical “Jesus Christ Superstar” 5:30 p.m. March 24 at Arizona Broadway Theatre, 7701 W. Paradise Lane. From the team who brought you Cats, Evita and Phantom of the Opera, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar highlights the last week of Jesus’ life seen through the eyes of his betrayer, Judas. A timeless work set against the backdrop of an extraordinary series of biblical events, and an award-winning rock opera score with songs like “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Superstar.” Call 623-776-8400.

NETWORKING: A meeting of the Friday Business Connections, sponsored by Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce, is 8-9 a.m. Friday, March 24 at West-MEC, 5487 N. 99th Ave. Call 623-932-2260.

GENES: Attend the GeneMatch Information Session 1-3 p.m. March 24 at the Banner Sun Health Research Institute, 10515 W. Santa Fe Drive. Banner Alzheimer’s Institute will be hosting this sessions to discuss GeneMatch, a program that has been developed by the Alzheimer’s Prevention Initiative for individuals aged 55-75 years with normal memory and thinking abilities who may be interested in participating in Alzheimer’s research studies. The session will also highlight the latest in prevention research and clinical trial opportunities that are available at the institute. This is for ages 55-75 and is free. Call 623-832-6500.

SALE: Go to the Benefit Yard Sale 8 a.m. March 24 and 25 at a local home, 10064 Alabama Ave. This yard sale will be conducted by Designing Women of Sun City and the Valley View Food Bank will receive 100 percent of the proceeds. This sale will feature some small antique furniture, current furniture, used clothing, vintage glassware and lines, regular household linens, small appliances and other items. Call 602-809-6060.

LUNCH: Get a free lunch for adults age 60 and older or adults with disabilities noon at the Surprise Senior Center, 15832 N. Hollyhock St. The meal program is designed for adults age 60 and better, and adults with disabilities. Senior Center members between the ages of 50-59 are welcome to participate for a recommended contribution of $5 per meal. Reservations must be made by noon, two business days in advance. RODEO: Join the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) 2017 Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) 6:45 p.m. March 25 and 26 at The Gila River Arena, 9400 W. Maryland Ave. Fans will be treated to intense action as the top bull riders converge on 720 tons of dirt to compete against the rankest bulls in the sport, all in an effort to win valuable points that go toward winning the PBR World Championship. MOVIE: Watch the movie “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” for free 7:30 p.m. March 10 at Arizona State University’s West Campus, 4701 W. Thunderbird Road. This prequel to the very first Star Wars (“A New Hope”) film tells the story of how a ragtag band of freedom fighters, including a former soldier-turned-prisoner (Felicity Jones), a Rebel Alliance insider (Diego Luna), an intensely spiritual believer in the Force (Donnie Yen) and a sentient robot (voiced by Alan Tudyk), worked together to steal the Death Star’s secret blueprints. Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Riz Ahmed, Mads Mikkelsen and Jimmy Smits co-star in “Rogue One,” the first of several Star Wars spin-offs planned after J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” reboot. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to this event. There will also be free parking and free popcorn. Call 602-543-6450.

FARMERS MARKET: Attend a farmers market 8 a.m.-noon March 25 at the First United Methodist Church, 7102 N. 58th Drive. In addition to the brush-fed beef, new vendors will participate in the market this season, from local craft artisans, to other local business owners, food vendors and restaurants. Each event will see around 40 vendors total. In addition, the purpose of the market is to provide a marketplace for healthy, nutritious and sustainable foods systems for residents throughout the Valley. BARBERSHOP: Watch the Beatles ‘n’ Barbershop show by the Phoenicians Barbershop Chorus 7 p.m. March 25 at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts, 10580 N. 83rd Drive. Chorus and quartets present a tribute to the Fab Four who brought their musical message here from England in the 1960s with songs such as “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “All My Lovin.” General admission tickets are $12 in advance at tickets.phoenicians.org or $15 at the door. DATING: Go to the Ladies Night: The Date Night Experience event 6:30-9:30 p.m. March 25 at The Links Neighborhood Grill, 18823 N. Country Club Parkway. Evening highlights include DJ music, a specialty menu, drink specials, raffles, and free swag bags, plus local vendors selling jewelry, makeup and more. LOVE: Take a live the Life You Love class 9 a.m.-noon March 25 at The Rio Vista Recreation Center, 8866 W. Thunderbird Road. Continue achieving the life goals desired, with life coach, Shelly Ryan. There will be more purposeful hands-on activities geared to create clarity, explore obstacles and strategies to overcome them; and updating an action plan designed to move towards a life you love. TRIATHLON: Participate in the adult and youth triathlon 8 a.m. March 26 at Vistancia, 31501 N. Westland Road. Swim in the Foothills Center pool, bike through the Blackstone Country Club and explore Vistancia’s Discovery Trail on the run course. This event is one for the whole family with adult and youth distance triathlons. Ticket prices will vary depending on the date and registration is required. CONCERT: Listen to Desert Brass Band perform 3 p.m. at Willowbrook United Methodist Church, 19390 N. 99th Ave. The 36-piece band is directed by Charles Musgrave and will perform a concert of “Old Band and Audience Favorites”.  The cost is $5 at the door and children 12 and younger are admitted free. Some songs that will play are “Men of Harlech,”  movie tunes from the “Sound of Music” and “Pirates of the Caribbean”.  In addition a cornet trio will play Boogie Woogie Bugle Boys. ERIC: Listen to a Eric Clapton tribute 6 p.m. March 26 at the Sundial Center, 14801 N. 103rd Ave. Mr. Clapton is 19 time Grammy winning blues and rock artist who has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame three times.
