There be water here: Liner project nears end in Sun City

Refill of Viewpoint Lake begins

It has been nearly a full year since Viewpoint Lake had water, but it began returning to the man made lake Aug. 4.

The project to replace the liner in the Sun City lake was complete enough to begin the long process of getting water back into the lake. Pacific Aquascape officials estimated the refill would begin Aug. 4 and right on schedule a dam holding back water in the retaining area was broken that day and water slowly began to pour into the lake at the culvert under cameo Drive. By Aug. 7, enough water was in the area of Cameo to cover the pads on which fish habitats in that area were placed.

While water was being drawn into the lake, the work to replace the liner continued. Liner and bank replacement were complete in the Cameo finger between Emerald and Kannapali points and the area near Lakeview Center, 10626 W. Thunderbird Blvd., and around Hillside Park. But when water began flowing back into the lake Aug. 4, the area fronted by the El Dorado Condominiums, 10330 W. Thunderbird Blvd., and the area between Kannapali and Tan Tara points still needed liner on the bottom of the lake.
