Phoenix-area sees sharp jump in heat-related deaths

2022 comes in as worst year on record

Last summer was the deadliest on record for heat-associated fatalities in Maricopa County amid a growing wave of homelessness.

Public health data released by the county found 425 heat-related deaths so far in their investigation for 2022.

The county’s heat-associated fatalities last year outpaced the 339 deaths confirmed in 2021 and with still some more deaths being investigated.
