Trailing in the fourth quarter, the Mercury were staring an 0-2 series deficit in the face in the five-game WNBA Finals, but the team’s ‘Big 3’ made clutch shots late to lift Phoenix over the Chicago Sky 91-86 in overtime Wednesday at the Footprint Center in Phoenix to even the Finals at 1-1.
Mercury center Brittney Griner scored a game-high 29 points and guards Diana Taurasi and Skylar Diggins-Smith overcame cold starts to come up with big plays in the clutch.
“It’s just how bad we wanted it. We grinded out a win," said Mercury coach Sandy Brondello after the game. "You know, areas we can still get better at, but we made enough plays to get the W.”
