The power of support: Community reinforcement strengthens Scottsdale Schools' success during pandemic

What started as a novelty turned into a boring routine for Scottsdale Unified School District elementary students and parents alike. COVID-19 flipped the academia world upside down, and for age groups otherwise unaffected by the virus, their young minds are impacted the hardest.

As of Nov. 20, there have been 229 positive COVID-19 cases among 19,001 kindergarten through 12th grade staff and students presently on SUSD campuses. Of those, only 39 are currently active, as told on SUSD’s COVID-19 response page.

Jann-Michael Greenburg, SUSD Governing Board member, recalls only one case where the virus was transmitted on school grounds, sending some students to quarantine. Most cases among the school district are contracted outside of school, whether it’s from a family member at home, social events, athletics, extra curriculars, etc.
