The Nash in Phoenix announces November music lineup

The Nash, the home for live jazz in downtown Phoenix, has nights of music lined up in November.

The nonprofit, located on Roosevelt Row at 110 E. Roosevelt St., opened in 2012 and has grown to present more than 300 events annually including jazz performances, jam sessions and educational programs – featuring students, local and regional musicians, and national and internationally acclaimed jazz artists.

 

Esthesis Quartet

7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11

Esthesis Quartet plays original music that shakes the preconceptions of traditional instrumentation roles. The group approaches collaboration with understanding, respect, and a commitment to spontaneity and sonic exploration.

A lively evening of Latin jazz and salsa, blended with Mambo, Descarga, Cha Cha, Cumbia, Bolero and Samba. Raúl Yáñez brings a rich musical background and experience to the stage. He currently teaches at ASU in their School of Music, Dance & Theatre, and has worked and recorded with notable artists and groups such as Joey DeFrancesco and Jimmy Smith. He was the composer of the first Concerto for Turntable and has toured with Sister Sledge, El Chicano and Esteban.

Born in the Pinar del Río province of Cuba, Steinway artist, Grammy-nominated, and 2014 Jalc Millennium Swing Award recipient pianist and composer Elio Villafranca was classically trained in percussion and composition at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana, Cuba.

Since his arrival in the U.S. in 1995, Villafranca is at the forefront of the latest generation of pianists, composers and bandleaders.
