The Greenburg files: Scottsdale school district issues written statement

Scottsdale Unified School District parents have received a letter, dated Nov. 10, addressing allegations recently lodged against the governing board president, Jann-Michael Greenburg and his father, Mark.

“You may be aware of reporting in the Scottsdale Independent this week regarding a Google drive site allegedly created and maintained by Mark Greenburg, the father of SUSD Board President Jann-Michael Greenburg. While the existence of the site and its public record contents may raise concern, such activities are not within the purview of the Scottsdale Unified School District to control and are unrelated to the district’s task of providing future-focused, world-class learning opportunities to our 22,000 Pre-K-12 students,” according to the letter.

“That said, it is important to know that governing board members do not have unfettered access to student records protected by the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA. We want to assure you in no uncertain terms that personal student information and educational records are private and protected in district-maintained, secure information systems to which neither Board members nor the public have access.”
