The Fountains United Methodist Church is gearing up for its 13th annual 9/11 Interfaith Food Drive.
In an effort to change the 9/11 commemoration narrative from one of sadness to one of service, the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Arizona (ISBA) and its area partners organize a multi-faith food drive each year, a press release read.
This event demonstrates that the same spirit that drove the first responders and others to care for complete strangers on 9/11, is still alive by uniting communities to provide food for the most needy, the release added, bringing together people of all ages, ethnicities and faiths.
The Fountains will collect non-perishable food, paper and hygiene items for two community food banks/pantries: ICNA Relief Mobile Pantry in Tempe and the Extended Hands Food Bank in Fountain Hills.
Donations may be brought to The Fountains UMC (15300 N. Fountain Hills Blvd.) Sunday, Sept. 15, by 10:30 a.m. where they will be placed in the Extended Hands Food Bank truck.
Monetary donations can be sent through 911fooddrive.org and will be divided between the two food banks.
For questions or for those requesting help donating items can contact DeDe Rudolphy at dede@isb-az.org.
