'The church is not the building'

Holy closure of Ascension Lutheran Church comes one year after sale

Editor's note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated Scott Jarson is with PHX Architecture, but he is with AZ Architecture/Jarson & Jarson Real Estate which specializes in the sale of architecturally unique homes.

Ascension Lutheran Church in Paradise Valley, which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright’s first apprentice 60 years ago and sold last year for $11 million, will hold a holy closure service 10 a.m. Sunday, June 9.

The building will then be demolished and new housing built on the six acres at 7100 N. Mockingbird Lane.
