DUI REFORM

Goodyear bicyclist survivors seek THC DUI reform a year after incident

On Feb. 25 2023, Judy Smith saw her husband Mike Smith for the first time after an accident. When she saw him she thought the worst.

“I thought he was dead the first time I saw him,” she said, in a November meeting with the county attorney. “I don't understand. What is this man going to be charged with?”

Mike is facing life-long disability and financial suffering from a traffic incident while he was bicycling with his friends. Mike was somewhat lucky, he was one of the 17 injured. On a rural bridge in Goodyear, a pickup driver plowed through a cycling group Mike was a part of. The driver killed two and injured 17.
