Thanksgiving may harvest COVID-19 banquet for Scottsdale schools

Dedicated teachers, staff, students and parents are among many things Scottsdale Unified School District leaders are thankful for while bracing themselves during the upcoming weeks to digest the Thanksgiving break leftovers.

After getting a taste of the district’s well-prepared Return to Learn platter, served to those willing to partake of in-person instruction on campuses, there was an aftertaste of COVID-19 incidents swallowed from Arcadia High to Tonalea (K-8) schools.

The SUSD governing board called a special emergency meeting on Monday, Nov. 23 to discuss surging COVID-19 incidents district-wide and make a determination of when to close schools, or as Dr. Scott A. Menzel, superintendent, said: “return to online learning.”
