Testing to breathe easy: Lung cancer screenings decrease mortality rates, but public needs more awareness

During the past five years, Arizona ranks 46th in the nation when it comes to lung cancer screenings.

According to Banner Health’s Dr. Archan Shah, the reason remains to be seen, but it likely has many reasons, including a lack of awareness and the stigma that comes with it.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and by all accounts Arizonans are in the upper tiers in terms of the number of new cases annually, ranking at No. 7 according to the American Lung Association, with fewer cases than the national average.
