Tension builds at West-MEC over ASBA membership

Board will discuss severing ties Wednesday

Trouble is brewing in the West Valley as one school district seeks to sever ties with the state’s school board association.

The Western Maricopa Education Center, or West-MEC, a public school district that provides career and technical education programs to West Valley students, will discuss ending its membership with the Arizona School Board Association during its June 9 governing board meeting.

The agenda item was requested by new board member Michael Hutchinson, and El Mirage resident who also serves on that city’s council.
